"Le bon entraîneur pour Federer ? La meilleure solution ce serait moi", a déclaré l'ancienne gloire des années 80. McEnroe a cependant nié tout contact avec le numéro un mondial qui ne devrait pas se précipiter pour choisir un nouvel entraîneur à deux semaines du début de Roland-Garros, avant de conclure: "Il semble clair qu'il n'a pas besoin d'entraîneur pour le moment". Federer a remporté trois titres du grand Chelem en 2004, après s'être séparé de son coach, Peter Lundgren.
